What is history of
Messiah Lutheran School? |
|
Messiah Lutheran School
was founded in 1943 by
members of Messiah
Lutheran Church on the
present church property
located at the
intersection of Main &
Pacific In Independence,
Missouri just south of
the historic
Independence Square. The
founders of Messiah
Lutheran School were
dedicated to providing
children in Eastern
Jackson County a
Christian education. The
School continued to
expand and additions
were made to the
original church building
to accommodate the
School. |
|
To the present day, the
members of Messiah
Lutheran Church has been
very generous in their
support of the school.
Messiah Lutheran is very
thankful for the Lord’s
blessing and provisions
and we look forward to
continuing to serve
families in our
community. |

Why send your
children to Messiah
Lutheran when there are
adequate public schools? |
|
There are 3 primary
reasons why parents
select Messiah Lutheran
over a public school
alternative. First,
Messiah Lutheran rates
very high in academics
and the fine arts. Our
curriculum is
multi-faceted and
designed to enhance the
full development of each
student. The proof is in
our standardized test
scores and the fact that
Messiah graduates are
excelling in high school
and beyond. |
|
Second, there is a
philosophical difference
between Messiah Lutheran
and the public schools.
Our teachers and staff
consider their vocation
a calling, not just a
job. Moreover, our
educational system is
designed to support the
family and not the
school system.
|
|
Third, and most
important, Messiah
Lutheran delivers
something that the
public schools can not -
a Christian education in
a Christ-centered
environment. We believe
that the spiritual
development of our
children is the most
important foundation for
our future. We also
believe that a child who
learns about God in
school will express
their Christian faith in
ways that glorify God
and make a significant
difference for others.

What about our faculty? |
|
This is what sets
Messiah apart and our
most important asset.
While our teachers,
administration, and
staff all have extensive
training and experience,
they are caring,
dedicated, and committed
to the full development
of children. They teach
to meet the child’s
academic, spiritual,
social, and physical
needs allowing the
child’s full potential
to be reached. All MLS
teachers are Missouri
State certified and most
have additional
credentials. If you are
considering sending your
child to Messiah and
want to know more about
the faculty, we urge you
to visit and meet with
Principal Ann Arndt. |

Is Messiah Lutheran
School accredited? |
|
MLS is fully accredited
through the National
Lutheran School
Accrediting Association
as well as the Missouri
Nonpublic School
accreditation
association. In 2007
Messiah Lutheran earned
high marks in the
accreditation process
and set new short and
long-term objectives to
strengthen our School.

What about the
curriculum at MLS? |
|
The K-8 program meets or
exceeds the curriculum
requirements of the
State of Missouri. It
is structured around
core curricular areas
(language arts, reading,
math, science, and
social studies) to meet
student needs. Science
and other core subjects
are taught from a
Christian perspective,
recognizing that God is
the Creator of all
things. In addition,
daily religion classes
are taught. Students
also have classes in
art, music (band, choir,
classroom), physical
education, and computer. |
|
One significant
advantage of Messiah
Lutheran is the
student-teacher ratio.
This allows the
instructor to most
effectively deliver the
curriculum and give
individual attention to
the students. The
children have a great
opportunity to get
involved in any school
activity they desire.
Beyond academics, we
develop the spiritual,
academic, social,
physical, and aesthetic
aspects of the child.
We believe that sports,
music, and drama are
important to the overall
education of the child.
We also offer a range of
activities that allow
for parent involvement
and family fun. |

|
What are the
co-curricular
activities? |
|
MLS offers a variety of
co-curricular activities
in academic, arts, and
athletics. We are really
proud of our music
program which includes
band, choir, and drama.
Because of our size, our
athletic programs allow
for full participation
and age-appropriate.
Soccer and volleyball
are offered in the fall
for students in grades
5-8, basketball in the
winter for grades 4-8,
and track in the spring
for 4-8. MLS enjoys an
award winning band
program, beginning in
grade 5. |

How is Messiah Lutheran
supported? |
|
Through the years God
has blessed MLS with the
financial resources to
upgrade our programs and
facilities. As you may
know, our tuition is
very affordable,
especially in comparison
to other private
Christian schools. We
are able to keep tuition
in check because of the
continued,
long-standing, and
generous support of
Messiah Lutheran Church.
|
|
On average, individual
student tuition is
approximately 50% of the
total cost. The total
cost is significantly
defrayed by Messiah
Lutheran Church and
outside fund-raising.
Also, many parents
volunteer their time as
room parents, teacher
aides, field trip
drivers, fund-raisers,
PTL or Booster Club
officers, or librarians. |

|
What is the tuition? |
|
Tuition is very
affordable, with rates
being very competitive,
and often lower than
area private schools.
Tuition for the
2007-2008 school year is
$3,800 for K-8. There
are also multi-child
discounts and financial
aid*. Parents may pay
monthly, by semester, or
yearly. |
|
*MLS
receives financial aid
funds from investments,
member contributions,
and individual
donations. An MLS
endowment fund to
support financial aid
will be established as
funds become available.
Any family who needs
financial assistance is
welcome to apply for
student financial aid.
Financial aid is
available to children of
any religious
background. |

What are our prayer
needs? |
|
● |
That the
teachers,
administrators,
parents, and
children,
would
continue to
seek the
will of God. |
|
● |
That the
minds of the
teachers,
administrators,
parents, and
children be
filled with
a greater
sense and
knowledge of
God’s
holiness. |
|
● |
That
every child
would know
Jesus as his
Lord and
Savior. |
|
● |
That the
staff of MLS
would be
given wisdom
to plan,
manage,
grow, and
teach in the
ways that
bring glory
to God. |
|
● |
That our
enrollment
would be
fruitful and
bring new
families to
our school. |
