Athletics: A Full-Participation
Sport at
Messiah Lutheran |
At Messiah Lutheran School (MLS), there
are no try-outs for our seasonal sports
teams. The only criterion students must
meet to play is their desire to do so.
The school is small enough that students
can participate in any extracurricular
activity that’s offered.
So whether it’s basketball, volleyball,
track, drill team, soccer, cheerleading
or physical education, there’s something
for every child at MLS. The policy at
MLS is not only to make all sports
full-participation and open to all, but
also to give every team member a chance
to play on a regular basis. In this way,
we ensure no child is left out. |

Students in fifth through eighth grades
at MLS who participate in girls
volleyball, girls and boys basketball
and/or girls and boys track and field
get experience in league competitions.
And again, anyone who wants to play gets
a chance to, whether it’s a regional
bout with other area Lutheran schools or
a mid-season tournament.
One of the highlights of the MLS
2006-2007 athletics program was the
appearance of our girls and boys
basketball teams at the Missouri State
Lutheran School Tournament in Jefferson
City. Everyone enjoyed the experience –
from the players to the coaches to
parents – and the children left the
competition with a greater sense of the
importance of teamwork.
The MLS athletics program expands
children’s social development through
teamwork and also helps them acquire
physical skills to set the foundation
for an enduring healthy lifestyle.
Sports are just another component in our
commitment to developing children to
their fullest potential in every aspect
of their life.
