| Music and the Arts: Making Better
Students |
At Messiah Lutheran
School (MLS), and in all acclaimed
academic programs, the arts play a
critical role in developing a
well-rounded, successful student.
Studies have long shown that when
children are exposed to the arts, they
perform better from an academic
standpoint. Students who receive a solid
arts education consistently score higher
on standardized tests in core curriculum
areas, including reading, writing and
math.
Through their involvement in the arts,
children hone their social, reasoning,
cognitive, expressive and creative
skills. Music and art students also
develop better study habits and tend to
be more active than children who do not
receive instruction in the arts.
MLS students attend daily classes in
visual arts and music. The school offers
an award-winning band, drama and choir
for every age group. Children are
encouraged to participate in any arts
activity in which they have an interest.
Every aspect of the child is important
at MLS, and we do everything we can to
give our students every advantage.
That’s why we include a strong arts
component in our curriculum. All
evidence points to the conclusion that
an arts education helps develop children
to their fullest potential, both
academically and socially – not to
mention the fact that it’s fun and a
great creative outlet.
