Academic Excellence

At Messiah Lutheran School (MLS), we’ve been building bright futures since 1943. Our Christ-centered learning environment and small class sizes encourage children in the pre-kindergarten program through eighth grade to reach their full potential. A caring and highly qualified staff instills Christian values and provides a strong educational foundation that serves our students well throughout their education.

MLS students consistently perform above national averages and one or two grade levels higher than their same-age peers in public schools, based on standardized test results. MLS is committed to the full development of students from both an academic and social perspective, so they are well-rounded and fully prepared for their continuing education. Our graduates regularly exceed academic performance expectations in high school and higher education institutions.

Strong Curriculum

The MLS curriculum is structured around the core subjects of language arts, reading, math, science and social studies. Students also receive daily instruction in religion, art, music, physical education and computers.

Messiah Lutheran is fully accredited through the National Lutheran Schools Association (NLSA). The school complies with and in many cases, exceeds Missouri State academic standards and enhances its curriculum through special academic opportunities such as an advanced math program and a computer lab.

Small Classes and Committed Teachers Benefit Children

At MLS, our class sizes average 14 students to one teacher. None of our classes exceed XX students, so every child is guaranteed individualized attention.  Students and teachers in small class settings form faster and stronger bonds than those in classes with more students. Such bonds lead to improved student participation and engagement and thus, success in the classroom.

MLS also evaluates each student for special reinforcement or enrichment needs, and teachers strive to meet those needs by challenging students according to their unique abilities. The faculty at MLS is trained to teach and model proper behavior in a caring atmosphere conducive to optimal learning.

All MLS teachers and staff share a strong Christian background, which results in close-knit camaraderie and a family-like atmosphere. MLS staff, administrators, pastors, parents, teachers and supporters comprise a community committed to providing a safe, loving learning environment and a challenging curriculum.

MLS teachers – all of whom are Missouri state-certified – consider their vocation a calling and not just a job. More than 80 percent of our teachers have been with MLS for 15 years or longer, and more than 35 percent have 20 years or more experience with MLS, which emphasizes teacher development. The school regularly provides continuing teacher education and professional development opportunities.

The bottom line for students is a devoted, well-qualified staff that enables each student to expand his or her God-given gifts within a strong and caring Christian environment.
